On a beautiful Sunday morning, the members of Bangalore Warrier Samajam found themselves packing their bags, putting on their caps and tying their shoes to drive up to the city’s outskirts. It was a day with clear blue sky, and the yellow sun shining as bright and energetic as our people.
For most of us, outdoor activities are an essential method of unwinding and recharging. With the same zeal in mind Bangalore Warrier Samajam organized ‘WASportz 2023’ - the yearly sports day. The event was organized at Guhantara Resort.
Before the games began, the participants were addressed on the fun-filled day's timeline. The events were then kicked-off with an energetic race for toddlers to pick-and-drop balls in a basket. There was a lot of encouragement from the audience with cheers and claps! Soon the games for all age groups kicked in as members were found playing and competing whole heartedly.
For children under 10 years, the group was further split into three by age. The games organized included pick-and-drop balls in a basket and a frog race. Games for pre-teens and teens between 10 to 18 years old were football penalty shootouts, a three-in-one race that tested their balancing capabilities and a balloon bursting race.
Women under 30 years played hitting the wicket, lemon-and-spoon and balloon race. The squad between 30 to 45 years of age participated in backward-walking, balloon race and book balancing. Women between ages 45 to 60 played backward-walking, lemon-and-spoon and book balancing. For the women above 60 years, the games organized were a walking race, lemon-and-spoon and book balancing.
Games held for men between 18 to 45 years of age were hitting the wicket and book balancing. For the age group above 45 years, the games included tossing the ball, book balancing and one-legged race. Three winners were picked for every game in every age category.
After the games, a buffet style lunch was organized by the resort. Families spent time exploring the resort, relaxing and socializing after lunch. A prize ceremony was held shortly after to felicitate the winners of the games and to distribute mementos to the members of the Samajam. The day wrapped up with high tea for all.
Everyone dispersed with high spirits and large smiles as they bid their goodbyes.
“It was more like a family event with fun and participation!” said a member of the Bangalore Warrier Samajam.
“We enjoyed every bit of the event and were very glad to meet many members. Looking forward to many more such events to connect with everyone.” was another response received from a participant.
