The world we live in is a fast evolving one. We hear about new technology frequently and see a variety gadgets in every nook and cranny. It is an undeniable fact that these glowing devices have aided us through the COVID-19 pandemic and positively revolutionized our lives in an unimaginable way, but, how aware are we of what's on the other side of the fence?
Bangalore Warrier Samajam hosted an expert talk on January 7th, 2023 with Dr. Elizabeth Daniel, who is a consultant clinical psychologist and has worked as an Honorary Child and Adolescent Mental Health Expert, RBS, Dept. of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Karnataka.
Dr. Elizabeth discussed the 'Effect of Gadgets on Children Post Pandemic' with a vibrant audience of youngsters, parents and grandparents. She addressed the importance of monitoring the usage of gadgets due its adverse effects on the minds of children. She spread awareness on the perils of addiction, decreased social relations, loss of concentration, lack of academic interest and other harmful impacts of gadgets. Dr. Elizabeth also suggested preventive and remedial measures. Simple household rules such as no phones on the dinner table can bring notable changes. Regulations can be implemented at the school level and fun activities can be organized by our communities that discourage the need of gadgets.The session was then open for interaction and members discussed their questions, opinions and feedback with our speaker.
