Women's Health & Responsibilities

Updated: Apr 4, 2023

In India, women play a major role in the family as primary caregivers. In the bargain, their health takes a back seat. Improving women’s access to healthcare is essential for the well-being of the family and in turn of the nation. Hence it is highly important to create awareness among the general population.

As part of International Women’s Day, for the very first time, the Bangalore Warrier Samajam Women’s Forum hosted a special interactive online session on April 1st, 2023 between Dr. Aparna Nair, Professor and Unit Chief at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and the members of our community.

Dr Aparna spoke to an interactive audience consisting of women of varying ages.

She addressed the importance of women being aware of their anatomy, the anatomical problems they could face, the related symptoms and treatment. She spoke of how women’s bodies change due to the presence of natural hormones in the different phases of life i.e menarche, the reproductive phase, the perimenopausal and the menopausal phase. Topics such as PolyCystic Ovary Syndrome, various types of cancers, contraceptive methods, menopause, and post-menopausal care were addressed. Awareness and self-examination can help prevent or control some of these issues. Approaching a health provider at the right time for help or treatment is of utmost importance.

She stressed on the importance of regular physical exercise and good mental health.

The talk ended with a question-and-answer session and positive feedback from the audience. Those wishing to avail of Dr. Aparna's services can do so through the Vydehi Hospital number given below. Tel: 080-4906 9000, 080-6111 1111
